Does Chantix really work? Has anyone had any side effects of it?
I am currently taking chantix and it does cause a noticeable drop in your urge to smoke ..... the only side effect ( a nice one ) is very vivid dreams.... I would recommend Chantix if trying to quit.... I have also used Zyban but feel Chantix is much better....... good luck

I have been on Chantix for about three months. So far in October I have not bought any cigarettes, but I have bummed a cigarettes on two occaisions from a friend. I still have a real craving at times, but the frequency of the cravings is going down.
It is worth noting that I have another powerful incentive to keep off cigarettes. I had a heart attack and coronary bypass surgery in May.
One other person I have talked to in cardiac rehabilitation (the wife of another heart attack survivor) has told me that she has had no urges to smoke since she started taking Chantix.
My husband has been smoking for many years and tried several ways to quit on his one, without any long term success. He has tried Nicoderm and some other over the counter stuff. Is there anything a doctor can prescribe that will help with the cravings, headaches,...?
As mentioned by a number of other respondents Zyban or Wellbutrin can help people quit smoking. Another drug called Chantix was very recently approved to help people quit smoking. It is a drug designed to block nicotine receptors in the body. You can ask your doctor about it. Additionally there are a number of nicotine containing treatments (gum, patches, inhalers).
A prior response mentioned a drug designed to help with weight loss and smoking cessation. This drug is called Accomplia (generic name rimonabant). It is not yet apporved by the FDA for sale in the US. It is approved for sale in the United Kingdom.
I have been struggling to stop smoking.
Cold turkey, sucks and makes me way to stressed.
The nicotine patches made me sick.
I have recently been told that there are some prescription medicines that help you to stop smoking, and that they work very well. Has anybody tried them? If so, what one did you try, and how well has it worked for you?
I took Wellbutrin, and it worked like a charm. No cravings, no problem. They told me to take it for six weeks and keep smoking for the first two weeks. Then just stop. That's exactly what I did, eight years ago (after smoking for 24 years and trying really hard to quit a bunch of times.) I couldn't believe how easy it was.
Zyban is the same medicine, sold specifically as a quit-smoking aid. If you get a prescription for Zyban, you will probably have to pay for it out-of-pocket. It ain't cheap.
If you get your doctor to write the prescription for Wellbutrin instead, you get the same medicine (as an antidepressant) and your insurance will probably pay for it. Just tell your doctor you are depressed about smoking :>0

Recognition The Laser Therapy To Quit Smoking
Stop smoking medicine Laser treatments are available for everything from corrective eye surgery to dental whitening to both hair removal and hair regrowth stimulation.
Lasers can perform surgery on patients who have a tendency to bleed excessively; they can burn away unsightly moles and warts; they can remove spider veins and reduce snoring. But now laser companies are going after a huge new market with laser treatment to stop smoking. The laser treatment to stop smoking mimics the use of acupuncture as an aid for quitting nicotine; The smoker’s ear lobe is pointed by a low-level light and cool laser for about one hour session.
The theory underlying the laser treatment to stop smoking is that the laser pulses will stimulate the brain to begin producing endorphins–natural pain killers. The endorphins are claimed to both reduce nicotine cravings and alleviate nicotine withdrawal symptoms for three days following the laser treatment to stop smoking. In the withdrawal period, which is the worst time smokers will experience, they will go though it, and after that they will feel fine and ready to continue their process.
