For some of us weight gain is an unfortunate side effect of quitting smoking. Even if you do gain weight it will only be a few pounds at the very most. While weight gain is unfortunate it is by no means inevitable.
You have already decided to improve your health by quitting smoking so why not make it a complete health make over.
By making some healthier eating choices and performing 30 minutes of aerobic activity(biking, jogging etc) every day you will keep those extra pounds at bay. Trust me, it is easier to prevent weight gain than it is to actually lose weight.
Get rid of all the sugary and fatty snacks in your home. Replace these with fruit and veggies that you enjoy to much on. When you quit you may find yourself snacking more frequently.
Keeping the weight off is easy if you decide to keep your healthy lifestyle after you have quit smoking.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

I do not smoke, nor can I stand being around cigarettes. My girlfriend quit smoking, but every month or so will have one or two. She is no longer addicted but just enjoys having one simply to have one.
What I'm wondering is will it (in this moderation) actually counter the healing process drastically from quitting or not very much. Please if you can provide scientific/sourced answers. thanks.
I would look at it like this: Smoking injures the lung. It accelerates the aging process in the lungs. Quitting smoking doesn't so much as heal the lungs but doesn't cause further injury to the lungs. Smoking the occasional cigarette still induces a small degree of insult/injury to the lung tissue more than it is retarding the healing of the lungs.
Which each cigarette she inches closer to emphysema. The effects of the cigarette smoking are not reversible. Just that the acclerated decline in lung function is stopped with smoking cessation as opposed to the normal decline in lung function with normal aging. There is no "healing" per se. What's done, is done. That's why smoking is so bad...
I once read an herbalist recommendation that said Lobelia, Pukeweed, and Indian Tobacco (Latin Named: Lobelia inflata, L. cardinalis, L. syhpilitica) reduce the cravings, make cigerettes taste bad and help with withdrawal. I have also heard that a few drops of oil of cloves on the tongue helps with the cravings.
have tried all kinds of air freshners and i don't like the smell of incense ?so who has some suggestions out there ???
If you are still smoking, there is nothing that will get rid of the smell.
If you are quitting, then you can make a strong solution of a degreaser type cleaner and clean your walls. If you have carpet, you will also want to get it professionally cleaned or replace it.
The nicotine and tar in cigarrettes stick to the walls, windows, etc until you use a strong degreaser to remove the gunk.
I bought my parents house, and both were smokers. It's been 8 years, and I have scrubbed, replaced carpets, repainted, had the vents cleaned and aired it out by opening all the windows and doors for a few weeks, and I can still smell it on rainy days.
Hope that helps!

The Fundamentals Of Quitting Cigarettes | ExSmoking.com

There are many different ways by which people manage to successfully quit cigarettes, although there are quite a few tips that can be helpful to anyone.
Believe in your ability to quit. Far too many people give up on quitting shortly after they have started simply because they feel that making an effort is futile and that they are bound to live out the rest of their lives as smokers. Keep in mind that you can get rid of any habit that you weren’t born with and smoking is no different.
Formulate a plan for quitting cigarettesThis part of the process will give you an opportunity to tailor your quitting program to suit your own circumstances. Not everyone quits in the same manner, and you will stand a better chance of success if you formulate a plan that takes your needs into consideration.
