Is this a side effect of quitting smoking?

I'm 3 days into quitting smoking with nicotine replacement therapy. It's the 4th or 5th time I've done this and each time I notice my skin gets kinda blotchy/rashy in parts, on my face. I heard somewhere that this can happen as cigarette toxins leave the body. Anyone know if this is true or just a myth?

I don't know about the toxins, but it could be due to the stresses you body/mind is experiencing from quitting.

What are the negative side effects to quitting smoking?

I just recently quit smoking and for some odd reason, have been really drained of energy. Ive been told this could happen.
What other negative side effects can I expect now that I am no longer a smoker? (besides, of course, craving one... oh! and wanting to eat like a hog)

I quit years ago. I have had no negative effects. You keep smoking and you will have boatload of side effects from that. The next time you want a cigarette think about the money, and all of the people who would be alive today had they not smoked. Believe quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for yourself, your friends and your family. Hang in there you can kick the habit. Takes a bigger man not to smoke then to smoke.

are chest/lung pains a side effect of quitting smoking?

Well Thank God you did Quit. Your Lungs along with the rest of your Body have been damaged from years of smoking. Hopefully the pain will ease up after awhile, but you were an Addict and Now you are going through withdrawal. I salute you for doing the right thing. Hang in there it will get better.

Side effect of quitting smoking?

I quit smoking 10 days ago.

This was a long-term habit of around 15 years or so.
I only used to have 2 or 3 in the evenings so I wasn't a heavy smoker (it is surprising how easy it was to just quit actually!).

None the less, I have been waking up with a bloody nose every morning..... Is this a side effect? What has caused this?
Red Fred are you a doctor or nurse?

I don't have blood pouring out of my nose as such.... Just lining my nose so that when I blow my nose there is blood.

Please don't comment like that unless you have a medical background....
Thanks Kazzled - I certainly don't feel stressed. I'm not even working at the moment! But I woke up with a cold sore this morning, first one in yrs!! Only ever get those when stressed.... So you may be right. I only ever smoked at night so maybe when I'm sleeping my body has changed biochemically due to no smoke in my system.....? I'm otherwise fine and nose seems ok now so will see how I go.

Ignore that idiot, if they don't have any actual input it is better they not bother at all!! Anyway, First and Foremost, i would say, go and consult a doctor. Nose bleeds may be a sign of high stress levels, or another issue that may have been suppressed before now. Do not freak out however. It may not even be linked with you quitting smoking! Do you have high stress levels usually? How are your cravings? I would suggest having a glass of water at night before bed and then sitting down, closing your eyes, and mediating/focusing on the areas around the nose and about the days events calmly then lay down and drift off to sleep.

Quitting Smoking Side Effects?

I dont smoke and i never will. Recently about a week ago my mum has stopped... but not completely.... shes cut down a lot though. Shes got this inhaler thing from the doc, to help her stop smoking and last night she woke up with blood in her mouth. Now we read the side effects of the inhaler and shes only been using it for 4 days now and it said can cause ulcers and dry mouth and she has a small ulcer in her throat... but i know nothing about smoking, and im a little worried.

Have any of u smokers had this? It happend in the night she woke up with blood in her mouth... shes goin to the doc right away but i jus wanna kno if any of u have had this side effect when u stopped.

Thank you so much.
Oh and it hasnt happend before only last night and shes been using the inhaler for 4 days now. Once again thank you for your advice.

I would advise talking to her doctor about options other than the inhaler. Using something for only 4 days and getting those kinds of side-effects is probably not the best course of action, especially since your mom's throat is probably already sensitive due to smoking. See if she can talk to her doctor about something like a patch, pill, or even alternative medicine (like hypnosis!). If she wants to quit, or even just cut back, using something that gives her such horrid side effects isn't going to be very motivational. Best of luck!
