I quit cold turkey and boy was it miserable! That was 15 years ago and Ive never looked back. 2 packs a day is really a strong habit. Worst thing for me was really wanting to smoke all the time.

In terms of side effects, I had some muscle pain and a bit of an upset stomach. The palpitations would come and go.

Best thing I found is to exercise more. It's amazing how much more you can do when not smoking and it really helps to even things out.

I need quit-smoking withdrawal tips... couple of questions?

I currently smoke an average of 8 cigarettes per day. I put 6 aside for today, and tomorrow is my quit-day. I plan to quit cold-turkey.

I quit before, 3 years ago. I smoked 20 per day at that time, quit cold-turkey, and was absolutely no fun to be around for several weeks.

I am hoping that quitting cold turkey from 8 per day will be less outwardly difficult.

Any quitters out there know how many days it took until you felt like you could deal normally with people and situations? It's best if you quit cold turkey from a half-pack or less a day.
I know it's difficult, since I've done it before. All I want to know is, not when do the withdrawal symptoms subside (I already know that), but when can I act normally through the symptoms so that I don't seem strung out?
Also - I've been smoking 8 per day for about 6 months only, so it's not a years-long habit. I was completely free for over 2 years.


Most people say a month or two should be enough to beat the chemical addiction. But I didn't notice withdrawal symptoms past the first day or two. For me, cigarettes were clearly a nervous habit, rather than a chemical addiction. The big danger is getting bored, or being in a situation where other people are smoking, luckily fewer bars and restaurants than ever before. Outside a bar or restaurant is probably the most dangerous place in most towns.

I slipped at the 8 week mark back in 2003, and I was back into a pack-a-day habit in days. I quit again, using the e-cigarette in June 2008, and I've been free since.

It has been exactly 24 hours since my last cigarette (former pack-a-day smoker for the past 5 years!). This morning was okay, but during the afternoon I felt really sick, dizzy and my chest burned a little... not to mention I am a crazy bitch from hell! LOL How long is this suppose to last??

i have been smoking for 23 years. I have tried to quit so many times, but in the last 5 yrs. i have not tried to quit. As a depressed person, I really love to smoke. Doctor put me on 300 mg of Wellbutrin. Cigs are awful now. No cravings.I still look at them and want one. But it tastes SO BAD. so it's been 18 days now.

I think your dizzy chest burn will subside in a week or so. But I have found if you smoked a pack a day, the urge never really goes away. Like an alcoholic. You just have to talk yourself out of it. And remember why it's bad.
