Please advice on my High Blood Pressure?

I am 25 yrs old and have slight high pressure of 137/97. I weight 226 Pounds (102.5 kg). Heavy Smoker (Have 30+ cigarettes a day). Work overnight as I am a Software Professional.

No Exercise at all. Drink occasionally.

Recently I suffered from a very bad Shoulder pain which went till by head.

I intake a lot of Rice, soft drinks, sweets, sugar and I guess I also have high cholesterol.

I know it sounds pretty odd but I want to change this as I have a family and a small kid.

I wish to help myself. Can you guys please advice me on the food I should start taking, exercise.

I also want to quit smoking but Its quite tuff. I tried a lot. Tried Fading effect too for 4 months.

PLEASE HELP !!!!!

I DON'T WANT TO DIE OF A HEART ATTACK !!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

I did not expected so many replies.

I think I am overweight but my height is 6 feet

I have a friend who's a lot like you.
He weighs 100 kg too, loves to eat, has a desk job and doesn't really exercise either.

He has just now been diagnosed with diabetes and will have to take insulin 4 times a day for the rest of his life. I know it could have been worse but I still worry about him a lot.

First off, and you already know about this, stop smoking and lay off the sugar and fat. Too much sugar and high cholesterol are a sure ticket for a stroke and/or diabetes. The smoking adds to that ten fold.

Rice is fine, the Japanese kitchen is great for low fat and most of all healthy food, plus it's good!
Lots of vegetables help too. Stay away from burgers and fries, but if you eat healthy there's no problem in eating fast food once a week.

As for exercise; if your work doesn't allow you to take bike rides or go out for exercise, there's always the stairs that can provide you with a great work out.
Facing the stairs you take one step up, and then back down. Then try to find a pace that works for you. If you feel like you can take two steps, do it, but don't overdo it at first. Listen to your body, don't strain it in the beginning.
This gives you a good cardio work out which burns fat and increases your stamina without having to leave the house/office.

I commend you for trying to change, I hope it will work out.
Good luck!

4-step method to quit smoking

i have been having alocohol habit for 7 years. Now i want to quit. Need some help..?

Hi all,

I have been having drinking habit for 7 years. Among it, last 5 years i have been drinking weekly 3 to 4 days. Beer, rum, brandy whiskey and so on. Normally if i drink beer i will drink 2 beers(each has 650 ml) . Most of the time i used to mix beer and rum.

So many times i feel guilty. bec after boozing i blabber. if will forget what i spoke yesterday.

I am educated. working as a software engineer. I would like to take this drink moderately. monthly once. Normally when i drink, i use side dish as chicken and some non veg. 2 weeks back i felt my heart was paining a bit. That day itself i am getting scared. I consulted the doctor.

They said, this is due to gastric prob. Ur pulse, pressure all are fine. since u r young, u no need to be worried. They told me to stop smoking and reduce alcohol intake.

my age is now 24. Can i recover my health if i stop drinking and smoking. what are the things i have to do for it.

Need some valuable suggestion.

Certainly you recover your health, although it takes time.

Take a drinking inventory for the last 30 days. Where do you usually drink? Who do you drink with? Why do you drink? Is it boredom, loneliness, stress, for fun, because you feel you have to.

What will you do for the next 30 days instead of drinking? If you typically go out on Friday nights with your friends make a plan to do something else. Go bowling or on a trip or meet other friends elsewhere where there is no booze. The important thing is to make a plan and stick with it.

What are you going to do instead? Variety is essential. Take the 30 days to work on your fitness - dance, exercise or go for a run instead of drinking.

What about physical cravings? If it gets too tough see your doctor as he or she might advise medication or a gradual reduction. One of the best things is to distract your mind, either through exercise or something else.

Best of all is to start working on the reasons you drank too much in the first place - especially focusing on your negative thoughts.

Once you do all of these steps, you will really start to make a change and hopefully reach 30 days without drinking. Once you do that you can decide whether or not you want to continue.

All of these work for smoking too.

Also hypnotherapy and some medications can help you to stop...

do we really have free will?

If we did wouldn't we be able to change any our choice at any time about anything? I believe it depends on the circumstances. It seems first there must be a set of circumstances which arise, Then if that set of circumstances is important enough, that importance lets us be ready to make a choice. But if conditioning gets in the way of the importance of that set of circumstances You cannot be ready to make a choice For example if you smoke and would like to quit but find you cannot. What is happening? The circumstances which keep you smoking are more important right now to you than any other, Whether it is smoking is bad for your health and it bothers other people. Those circumstances are not important enough for you to be ready for a change of choice. And as long as a new set of circumstances arise you will not be able to be ready to make a choice to quit. That readiness is i think like a software program which automatically becomes available when a set of circumstances are important enough to you to take a look. without that readiness you cannot make a new choice and if you cannot make a new choice a person who wants to quit cannot quit no matter how much free will we think we have your thoughts thanks

Yes, I believe we still have free will. I've never thought of it from the perspective you've mentioned, but I don't think this example necessarily disproves free will.
The fact that we all have external circumstances affecting our decisions does not mean that we lack control over our actions. Whether you can stop smoking or not, you still chose to take that first cigarette. Sure, people may have pressured you to do so, but you still made the first choice.
There are external circumstances affecting literally every part of our lives. While these events, to a large degree, may determine who we become, they do not define who we are. In the end, we can still make choices because we feel that we can or should, not because we're forced to. Being unable to change doesn't mean that this ability has disappeared - it only means that we lack the self-control to change ourselves. Good question. Hope this made sense.
