To quit smoking, you can do the following things:
Write down the reasons why you smoke.
Know in which situations you like to smoke best.
You should know these situations very well (for example, when you are having a good time) and start to think of a solution for how you want to deal with that situation. More.
Determine the day you will stop. That can be tomorrow, but you can also wait for a more favourable moment.
Tell the people around you that you are going to quit. Possibly with somebody else.
Take away everything that reminds you of smoking.
Stop radically; it gives you the best chance of success.
Change your eating and drinking habits. Drink a lot of water, eat a lot of fresh fruit and be aware of 'pleasure drinks' like coffee, tea and alcohol.
Take care of enough physical relaxation. Go for a walk or a ride or go swimming.
Reward yourself. Do nice things or give yourself something, like a cd or clothes.
If you fall back, don't give up. Find out in what situation it happened and try to find out with what (alternative) behaviour you can react in the future. If you manage to come through the same situation next time, you have become stronger.
The desire to smoke is one of the first things you notice when you stop smoking. Such a moment lasts a few minutes. It comes, stays for a while and then goes. If you have stopped smoking recently, you will have that desire more often than after a few weeks. After a while, the periods between 'wanting to smoke' get longer and longer. Ultimately, the desire to smoke diminishes. Nicotine patches, self-help books and your doctor can help you to stop smoking. Also, health care centres usually have special "quit smoking" programs.
I need to quit smoking. Im using the nicoderm CQ patch. with awsome results!! day one.
Whatever you know or have heard would be helpful...
patch can make your skin itchy and wears off late in the day. be sure to buy the highest mg, even when you begin to reduce the dosage. simply cut them into half's or quarters can save a lot of money-plus you can apply an extra half if you get a craving.
gums works ok, but I prefered the lozenges since they don't require chewing.

Very best of Luck.
BTW C R is somewhat correct, but the power of BOTH a physical addition to nicotine and a mental conditioning of smoking being relaxing is very hard to overcome. its much easier if you can get rid psychological needs for a few months and then ween off or cold turkey the nicotine itself. and if cold turkey fails, make sure to go to gum, or lozenges instead of cigarettes.

It is a side effect of the patch.
You can minimize it by removing the patch before bed, however, if you were the type of smoker that lights up as soon as you wake up, you might have bad cravings in the AM. Weigh the pros and cons.
I'm thinking about quitting smoking. I know I want to quit within the next 2 years. The only thing is that I really enjoy smoking. I smoke roughly 15 a day. I would like to know how to quit without using the patch or gum. I can't quit all at once but would like to ease into it by smoking less and less. So what I really need to know also is...
How do you make yourself smoke less?
Get a jar with a lid, put some water in it, add cigarette buts, seal jar. When want to smoke, unseal and inhale the aroma from said jar.

Want to Quit Smoking? Hypnosis is (Almost) Pain-Free | Stop ...
Do you really want to quit smoking? Hypnosis is the most painless method you can possibly choose. Compared to using patches, pills, other drugs or cold turkey methods to quit smoking, hypnosis techniques are extremely gentle, easy to use and easy to learn.
If you’ve ever known anyone who has tried to quit cold turkey, you probably steered yourself clear of them for several weeks or months. At the very least, they’re cranky and grouchy. At worst, cold turkey quitters can be just plain mean and completely unpleasant to be around.
And they can be very short tempered. They’ll shout about silly things like who ate the last chocolate chip cookie, when there’s a full, fresh box sitting in the cupboard. Sometimes they’re so overly sensitive they’ll cry if you burn the toast.
