I've recently (about a month) quit smoking, and my PA suggested I see a heart specialist because my numbers didn't look right, so I did, and he says she must have got a bad reading, so do you think quitting smoking may have had an effect on the reading?
Your answer doesn't give details about what kind of tests you had done, but I can tell you that one of the biggest risks of smoking is atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Atherosclerosis, in turn, causes a plethora of health problems in almost all body systems (ie. diabetes, heart attack, renal failure, stroke, etc etc!)
As I said before, I don't know what type of tests your doctors performed, so I'll bet that atherosclerosis is one of your problems, but I can't give much more speculation than that.
Congratulations on quitting smoking, as this will dramatically improve your health (the longer you go without smoking, the greater your benefits will be).
Don#39;t kill yourself and people around, quit smoking now !
I started taking Zoloft to quit smoking but I don't think it's working. Plus I'm on the pill and worried about side effects. What are some easy ways to stop smoking?
Will power. That's how I did it. It's all psychological. Each time you pull a cigarette out of the pack, each time you bum one off of someone, each time you buy a pack or even ask for money to buy a pack, ask yourself any one of these questions:
Is this pack/carton/cigarette worth the months/years I'll spend in the hospital breathing through a tube?
Is this pack/carton/cigarette worth the pain I feel in my lungs and my chest every now and then?
Is this pack/carton/cigarette worth the lives I'll ruin of my (potential) children, siblings, parents, boyfriend/husband, or other family member when (not if) I die from lung cancer or heart disease?
Is this pack/carton/cigarette worth not being able to perform the physical tasks I once was able to perform before I didn't smoke?
Is pack/carton/cigarette worth the money that I spent on it, that I am basically burning for no other reason than the momentary gratification that I experience for 5mins (per cigeratte)?
Ask yourself these questions when you even THINK about smoking, and trust me. You'll quit!
One other tip:
Stop paying for cigarettes at all costs. If you really need one, bum it. But when you start getting dirty looks from people you frequently bum off of, you'll be ever more encouraged to quit. If you're doing this, one other question to ask is:
Is this cigarette worth the dirty look I just received from that last a-hole I bummed this off of.

Thanks
Because I already feel that something is not right when you do things that you're not happy with...
No. trust me. With a person with untreated schizophrenia, i quit(with reading some articles from whyquit.com) i quit(withdrew). Cigarettes(nicotine) are 100% psychologically and 100%phsyically addictive. I recommend reading some articles from that site. Quiting cigarettes for me was the last thing i thought i could do...(other than grow some hair back) but everyone has the potential to quit. They just have to "want to." Negative???????? When you quit(withdraw) all your senses go back to normal from before you started smoking. especially your taste buds...expect to gain some weight when you withdraw but you can loose it latter. the first 3 days can become intense but ittl get easier it'll the point where you won't even think about wanting to smoke. Trust me....i would have never thought that i would be able to say that.
Since i stop smoking now during the day only it seems i start to feel dizzy like im gonna pass out but i dont, this started after day 3 from not smoking, i have been a heavy daily smoker for 10 yrs, im only 25 and i going to see the doctor to make sure nothing else is wrong but i wanted to know if this is a normal withdraw effect from not smoking?THANKS
it would be safe just to go to the doctors any ways. i never heard of that.

When you halt smoking, you will dramatically better your chances of avoiding countless natural and physical position effects.
Take a look below and glance at just how smoking effects all parts of your body, including the urinary tract, digestion, bones and ones own reproductive system. When you stop smoking, the mucous production levels seem to rise and as a result, you may suffer from a post nasal drip. When you abruptly quit smoking, the body is in kind of a state of loss, not knowing how to work normally since it has not worked normally in such a long time. Your body will readjust and release sugar as it is needed. Without eating any more your body will just figure out how to regulate blood sugar more efficiently. Many people get headaches on quitting smoking.
