I am 23, been smoking since 15 and it is really out of hand. I can go through a pack a day and I am afraid for my future. I want to quit, but after a couple hours without nicotene all I want to do is smoke. I need help... any suggestions from any former smokers?
Well, if you are able to go a couple hours without one, write down the time you finish one, and then again when the urges start. Once you know that time, don't let yourself smoke before that. Slowly add time between each cigarette, until you are only smoking less than 3 or 4 a day.
If you start feeling the urge, and it isn't too bad, distract yourself with something for your mouth and hands. Carry around some small snacks (like sunflower seeds) to snack on and extend the time between cigarettes.
When you finally decide to not have one at all, avoid situations and people that you normally associate smoking with for a while. Makes it easier to not be tempted.
Worked for me years ago.

I've tried every thing from cold turkey to pill to hypnosis to the patch.
Honestly no there is no easy way to quit smoking, trust me! It is mostly surrounding yourself with people who do not smoke. Gum is the best way so far. You have a craving you chew the gum any time! It is going to be hard I won't lie to you but if you have the drive and ambition to quit you will succeed!
I smoke 2 packs a day.
I quit cold turkey and boy was it miserable! That was 15 years ago and Ive never looked back. 2 packs a day is really a strong habit. You know there are the gums and patches and nasal sprays that contain nicotine and many people do have luck quitting with these methods. i was thinking, tho, that in your case maybe hypnosis would work.i don't know if this link is any good but it looked interesting. I have tryed quiting cold turkey but no luck and i don't believe the patch and the gum work what else could i do?
Don't feel bad about not being able to quit through going cold turkey. This method doesn't work because it gives nicotine the power, not the other way around. The vast majority fail to quit this way.
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

I read the whole book last night, and its wiered i have totally change my thoughts on cigarettes. I have had some withdrawl symtons but nothing major, i keep telling my self i dont need to smoke and it works.
Surely you dont need a book to tell you how to quit smoking?
