What is better to quit smoking? Commit lozenge or the patch?

My boyfriend has been a smoker for more than 12 yrs and is trying and wants to quit He tried the patch and it helped him somewhat but he is smoking again. Should he try using the patch again or should I suggest the commit lozenge to him? How well do they work?

I have heard that the patch isn't the best thing to use. Because of elevated blood pressure. The Commit lozenges is fairly new. So try it. Just remember your boyfriend has to want to quit. If he can get past a couple of weeks he will feel a tons better. I quit cold turkey. Bought a ton of extra peppermint gum, stopped drinking alcohol, stopped drinking coffee and ate small low carb meals through out the day to keep my blood sugar stable. Drink a lot of water, helps flush your system. He will really have to commit and quit. He may be an azzhole for these two weeks, so don't let it get to you. Good luck..........

Has anyone ever used Commit Lozenges to quit smoking?

Did they work good for you? I am a VERY stubborn smoker. I have NEVER been able to quit for more than a day or two at a time, and inevitably start again. THIS TIME I WANT TO SO BADLY so that I can start jogging and lose some weight. Can anyone share their stories? Thanks!

Yes, I used the Commit lozenges successfully. You have to follow their instructions very carefully, people tend to get overconfident and use too little -- the trick is that it takes about 20 minutes to absorb the nicotine from a lozenge, so if you wait too long you'll have an overpowering urge for a cigarette and cheat.

Anyway, I didn't even throw away my cigarettes, just used the lozenges. Sometimes I broke down and had a cigarette anyway, but I just kept using the lozenges and eventually I found that I didn't need the cigarettes anymore, in fact, when I tried one it was kind of gross. Continued using the lozenges for several years, then used Chantix (which had just come out) to stop using the lozenges. That was a lot harder than using the lozenges to stop smoking!

Since Chantix is now out, you may want to go with that for now, but if it doesn't work, the lozenges are a good alternative. Even if you keep using them it's safer than smoking. As a last resort, consider the mini e cigarette from China -- delivers an atomized dose of nicotine that's very similar to what you get when smoking.

Nicorette Mini Lozenge (4 mg) 81-Count Package

Price: $84.60 $19.99

Stop using the nicotine lozenge at the end of 12 weeks. If you still feel the need to use nicotine lozenges, talk to your doctor
If you are under 18 years of age, ask a doctor before use
Nicotine lozenge is a medicine and must be used a certain way to get the best results

Which is better to quit smoking with? Commit lozenges, patches or gum?

I've tried with the patches once but wasn't successful. Since then though I've started taking Pozac for anxiety and a nerve pill just when my anxiety is really high. Should I try the patches again or an alternative? Did you or anyone you know stop smoking with any of these programs?

Hi. I'm sucking on a lozenge right now! I feel totally relieved of the jonsing. Patches do nothing for me. I've tried everything and these are the best. I suggest getting the 4mg mint of the generic drug store brand, exactly like Commit. This will save you a ton of money. Now when you first start these, suck on a lozenge. If you do not feel like your craving is totally gone, suck a second one. I kind of kept em going every couple of hours the first week. This prevented any cheating. They come in 2mgs and 4mgs. Get the four if you're serious. Good luck and you CAN do this. I've been smoking since I was a kid and I'm 33 now. Three months smoke free and rarely jones. We are so fortunate for these lozenges. One will last for 20-45 mins. I kind of worked them voraciously, the first couple of weeks. Working them down in 20 mins. Now it takes me 45 mins to use one. Another bonus, I wanted a cigarette in a movie last night, I was the only one in the theater who got my fix, without leaving the theater. Good luck hon.

Has anyone who's used Commit lozenges to quit smoking had a problem with flatulence? I can't stop farting.

This is no joke. I've been on these things for 4 days now, not smoking at all!! I'm farting about 5 times an hour, and loudly, not little SBD's. I don't know if I should go back to smoking or just keep farting until I'm an ex smoker.

from the commit website:

Are there any side effects to taking the Commit® stop-smoking lozenge?
Commit is not candy. If you consume the stop-smoking lozenge too fast or chew and swallow all or part of it, you may experience heartburn or indigestion. If you experience any side effects, you should discontinue use and consult your doctor.

The side effects seen in users are generally moderate and transient. The most common side effects are insomnia (reported in less than 5% of users), nausea, hiccups, coughing, heartburn, headache and flatulence.

When you think about it, its like chewing gum, or eating to fast when you're using these lozenges daily, so air can get trapped and your body releases it through flatulence and burping. So this seems a normal but irritating side effect. I say keep it up, dont go back to smoking...GOOD LUCK!

I quit smoking by using the Commit Lozenges. Has anyone else used these to quit?

I had smoked for over 30 years and these worked best. I just like to use one still every once in a while. How bout you?
The Commit did a great job. I tried to smoke and it gagged me. I just don't want to completely give up the Commit! I have 1 for a few minutes once a week or so.

Wow, really? I quit using the patch (but I only used them for a few days - not for the whole long drawn out process). It's been about a month and 1/2 since I used the last patch and just for the last week or so I've been craving a cigarette like CRAZY. And really this is the 1st time I've had real "cravings" since I quit. Urgh... it's so frustrating. Maybe I'll try one of the lozenges and see if that helps...

I did not start smoking because I knew once I start it would be difficult to quit…lol…No one in the family smokes, so that helped. Congratulations for the determination to quit. Jan should take up your challenge. Go Jan, go!

My next goal is to publish a novel. I know I can, self-publication is the solution, but I still have other priorities. Never give up on your dreams, eventually with persistence and determination, you’ll succeed. Cheers! . Because we find ways to make time for what’s really important to us.

I have set 7/28/10 as the date to reach my goal weight. Do you think that you can have a solid draft of 85K-100K words written by then? To “win” NaNoWriMo, you need to write 1667 words every day. So what could you accomplish with just 850 words a day? You’d have 100K in about 4 months.
