Hi, I'm a smoker, and I've been trying to reduce my nicotine intake by switching brands of cigarettes to find the lowest. Problem is I don't know which one is the lower than the other. Are there any ways to conduct a home-test to compare the nicotine level on cigarettes? Maybe using a non-lab, easy-to-use, easy-to-find chemical? Or are there other ways? Any suggestion is highly appreciated.
Thanx.
Don't know
Having a look a the wiki site, it is a hygroscopic pyrridine.
I reckon you could dissolve it out of tobacco using vodka but then I don't quite know how you would then test levels.
My suggestion:
buy 30 cigarettes of each strength
purchase 1 bottle of vodka - colourless would be preferable
a large number of tumblers
Dissolve 1 cigarette of each strength in a tumbler of vodka and give them all the same amount of time ... say 1 or 2 hours.
(Drink the vodka - the stuff you haven't dissolved cigarettes in.)
Inspect the tumblers to see if noticeable colour change has occurred.
If not, repeat the test with 2 cigarettes in each tumbler.
Drink more vodka.
Go to the shop and buy vodka
Do not drive to the shop
If there is no colour change after 1-2 hours try again with 3 cigarettes in each glass. Dissolve them and inspect for colour change.
... if you haven't gotten the result by the time you reach 7 cigarettes in each glass you won't have enough to go further.

Anyone know how to conduct a simple home test to test the nicotine level of a cigarette? I mean maybe using a chemical that binds the nicotine in cigarette smoke, or something. I tried using water in a bottle. Puffed cigarette smoke in the bottle and closed it. No good results though. So maybe any of you have any idea, all is welcome.
Don't know how to test it but in UK nicotine and tar level etc is on the side of the pack.
I1ve been searching the Internet about it, but I couldn't find any answer.
Do you know if there is an acceptable nicotine level that body could dispose it with being harmful?
TIA.

if you watch this video you'll understand how dangerous and toxic nicotine is in humans and animals, but it also shows you how you get hooked on it too, I don't think there's any safe level of nicotine, I just smoke it until it gets me dizzy and relaxed, I smoke about 20 cigarettes a month but now I have this feeling like smoking more, the older I get.
with mean 310 & standard deviation 110.
a] what proportion of smorkers have blood nicotine levels lower than 250
b]what blood nicotine level exceeded by 20% of smokers
a) Using GDC (graphics display calculator):
= normalcdf(-10^99, 250, 310, 110) = 0.293 = 29.3%
(You are basically finding the area of the normal curve from it's left end up to 250)
b) use: z = (X - mean) / std dev
invNorm(0.8) = (X - 310) / 110
0.842 = (X - 310) / 110
X = 403ng/ml
Tobacco company records in the 1950s and 1960s show that they successfully bred tobacco plants that had higher concentrations of nicotine, and sold the seeds of these plants to farmers. Nicotine levels rose during the 1970s and 1980.
Now, it has been found that between 1998 and 2005 there has been an 11% increase in nicotine levels smokers’ inhale from cigarettes, making it harder for smokers to quit smoking.
Why do we let tobacco companies get away with this?
I've done a lot of reading on the subject, as I know people who are hooked, who want to stop, but find they cannot.
According to some studies, it is easier to give up Heroin, than it is to give up nicotine and smoking. Why should it be made even harder for people to give up if they want to?
I am a smoker, and have been desperately trying to stop. I can't go cold turkey because I end up taking it out on everyone else, and typically while I can accept that adults probably wouldn't mind me doing this, I really don't know how to justify taking my withdrawal out on my 6 year old daughter. Therefore, I tried nicotine patches. I was dreadfully sick, so the doctors told me to stop using them. The same thing happened when I have used nicotine gum, and also the inhaler.
In response to this statement (quote from another answerer) "tobacco companies get away with it because people continue to buy their products" - erm, I have to buy their products - how else do I get my fix? I AM ADDICTED TO THIS DRUG.
What I don't understand is if they can increase the amount to nicotine in a cigarette, why haven't they come out with cigarettes in stages that would help you quit, each stage having less nicotine in it, just like the patches?
So anyone got a petition for me to sign about this? I will gladly sign!

Finding the right Nicotine level
I carefully looked into the different types of -cigs available and settled on the KR808 2 piece design with cartomizer. It was the right pick for me. There is no single type that is best so find what works for you. I was an ultralight smoker, who occaisionally smoked lights, but about 90% ultra lights. Mostly 1 pack a day to 1-1/2 packs on some heavy weekend days. Within 3 hours I was geeked out of my mind to the point where I knew I could not vape any more. This happened the next day as well. I had to go back to my analogs to get the "smoking fix" for my physical habit. I was going to get some 11mg to step down, but did some reading and found a member with a very similiar experience who ended...
