my husband is going to be having back surgery again.... and his new dr wants him to quit smoking for 6 weeks and they will do a blood test to see if the nicotine is gone because he has a bad hystory of infections and getting sick does it take all of 6 weeks?some have said a week and all kind of different answers ca some one answer this quistion?
It's not just the nicotine that the doctor wants to clear although nicotine raises heart rate,blood pressure, its effects also lowers resistance to infection. It is important for the lungs to get an opportunity to clear some of the gunk that tobacco leaves behind like the tar. Your hubby is going to have to have a general anesthetic and a machine will be breathing for him. It is urgent that his lungs be in good shape for this. For you to try to enable him to keep smoking longer than he should by asking this question is very strange. If you are a smoker, you need to quit smoking around him because second hand smoke can still cause problems for him.
As far as I remember, nicotine is water soluble. So, just drink gallons of water (not so much that it kills you though). That should do it.

As long as you don't touch nicotine in the next three days your body will be clear. Drinking orange juice will help to speed up the process, but the nicotine will have cleared by then anyway.
Theres a job I am going for and they are a very strict no tobacco policy. They even test for it too. So how do they test and how long does it take to get out of ones system?

It's a blood test, and it takes 72 hours for nicotine to be flushed out of your system, regardless of how long you've been smoking.
Considering your "system" is the circulatory system where your blood flows, then a blood sample is where they will look. A hair sample can also show nicotine use, but the expense is more than most companies are willing to pay.

Schlieren (Zurich), Switzerland, October 15, 2009 – Cytos Biotechnology Ltd (SIX:CYTN) was informed today by Novartis that an interim analysis of a Phase II study with the nicotine vaccine NIC002 showed that the primary endpoint was not achieved. This endpoint was defined as a statistically significant difference in continuous abstinence from smoking determined from weeks 8 to 12 after start of treatment compared to placebo. The study, which is ongoing, is a double blind, placebocontrolled, multi-centre study to evaluate the efficacy, safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of repeated administrations of 100μg NIC002 in 200 cigarette smokers who are motivated to quit smoking. In this study the treatment was safe and well tolerated but failed to induce sufficiently high antibody titers, which may have led to the negative outcome. Novartis is continuing the study in order to collect more long-term data on the efficacy and safety of NIC002 and will decide on the next steps once the scheduled 12 month duration of the clinical trial is completed and when all data have been analyzed.
