How long does nicotine stay in your system to be still detectable by a saliva test?

I recently quit smoking but I have a job interview coming up with a company that is smoke-free and do not hire smokers. So of course they test you for it. I wanted to find out if anyone knew how long nicotine stays in your system after you quit and how long is it detectable? I would appreciate any help with this.

An infrequent user would be in there system for 2-3 days but if you use it daily it could be from 7-14 days!

No knowledge on what you can do to speed the metabolite time up.

How long does nicotine last when bound with water?

Apparently soaking tobacco in water extracts the nicotine. How long does the nicotine last before it starts decomposing?

The four nicotine-alkaloids exist in combination in tobacco chiefly as malates and citrates. If you only soak the leaves with water you`ll extract these stable (!) salts.

If you want to extract the free base nicotine you have to treat the aqueous extract of tobacco by distillation with slaked lime, the distillate being acidified with oxalic acid, concentrated to a syrup and decomposed by potash. The free base is extracted by ether and fractionated in a current of hydrogen.

This free base is very hygroscopic, dissolves readily in water, and rapidly undergoes oxidation on exposure to air.
The only published half-life period of nicotine is 40-60 minutes for decomposition in human bodies.

If I quit smoking, how long will it take for nicotine to be eliminated. I am anticipating takign a physical.?

I want to get better rates on life insurance. I anticipate being blood tested for evidence of nicotine. How long must I quit smoking, which I need to do anyway, before I can confidently take the swab test?

How long until nicotine is out of your system?

I quit smoking years ago by using nicotine chewing gum. Unfortunately, I got addicted to the gum instead. I chewed the gum for years. Three weeks ago, I went cold turkey and stopped using the gum. It wasn't as hard as I thought. After a couple of days, I was fine. Until yesterday.

Suddenly, I am having terrible nicotine fits, three weeks after having last ingested nicotine. Is it all psychological, or could the nicotine have lingered in my body this long?

Six years is a propaganda statement with no research to back it up. Before all the furor about smoking started in the last 10-15 years, the generaly accepted time from that the actual drug is in your system was 2 week to a month.

Now, with deeper research being completed, opinions vary, but the time frame is thought to be a little LESS overall.
According to York University, about a week.
According to life insurance companies, 72 hours.
And according to the previous answer to this question on Yahoo (sorry, didn't check the date), 48 hours.

I would say that your feelings are psychosomatic, which CAN last years, but usually subside to a bearable level in 4-6 weeks.
