My dad just got approved for a surgery and the surgeon knows he smokes and wants to do a chest x-ray and some kind of test to check for nicotine before he will do the surgery. He was a heavy smoker for over 20 years and has cut down to only 2 cigarettes a day if even. He now needs to quit completely. If he quits now, and does the test in 2 weeks, will it still show up? How long does it stay in your body?

effective technique of living your life without nicotine ; by removing the nicotine from your system naturally. Cleanse and replenish your body ...
After 48 hs, there's no left nicotine in the body. But, I guess that your question scope was a little bit broader, wasn't it?
In that case, have a look to the "Beneficial health changes when you stop smoking"

The information below is organized as follows:

"Nicotine doesn't stick around your body for too long. It has a half-life of about 60 minutes, meaning that six hours after a cigarette, only about 0.031 mg of the 1 mg of nicotine you inhaled remains in your body."
The effects of Nicotine hang around much longer :-)
If ive been smoking for 20yrs how long does it take for your body to get rid of it.
Ive also been smoking for 20 yrs and at the moment trying to quit. I read somewhere the other day that it takes 3 months for all the toxins to leave your body.
i think my parents are going to do a test on nicotine because they think i have been smoking and i have but just 1 day and its was just 3 days ago so i was wondering how much time will it take nicotine and tobbaco to leave my system if i only smoked 1 time and no im not a regular smoker in fact i dont smoke at all just three days ago
your parents are lame, i feel bad for you. don't stress over it tho. just don't smoke anymore, and i doubt they will acyually do a test. good luck!

Nicotine is a short-acting drug that is eliminated from the body relatively quickly (i.e., within a day or so). However, the effects of acute nicotine withdrawal can be felt for as much as two weeks or more. In addition, the byproducts of nicotine can be detected in the blood for up to a month after you stop smoking. This is only of concern if you are in a situation where someone else might want to test you for the presence of nicotine or nicotine byproducts in your system.
