im located in uk where to have a thyroid test also will a gp do a test for thyroid but i have heard gp test for thyroid is not accurate is this true
your GP can order the test. It has nothing to do with the type of doctor doing the test whether it is accurate or not. What determines this is time of day of testing, ranges for the tests, and the type of thyroid test done.
Usually a TSH is done. This is the standard test and often not as accurate as the free t4 and free t3. When having thyroid testing, it should alays be done first thing in the morning when metabolism is near its low point.

I had a blood test done last week and it came back abnormal for the thyroid. The doctor put me on a medicine called Synthroid for it. If someone can tell me in simple terms, I would appreciate it!
My tests showed the following - TSH level - 5.551 and my PTH, intact was 74.1, which seems to be extremely high.
Your thyroid is underactive. The Synthroid will balance out the hormone level to make up for the lack of activity from your thyroid. You may end up having an ultrasound (totally painless) to check out the size of the thyroid and whether there are any nodules/growths on it. Often, Synthroid will lessen any growths. Make sure to take it as directed. Try to avoid calcium (milk, yoghurt, etc.) for a couple of hours after taking it. Calcium lessens Synthroid's effectiveness. At least, that's what my endocrinologist said! Also, if it was your general practitioner and not an endocrinologist, I'd suggest seeing a specialist. My GP took me off Synthroid when my levels regulated, then they rose again. There is no cure for hypothyroid, so never stop taking the Synthroid.

I've had bleeding for a month straight so I went to the doctor to have my birth controll pills changed thinking that was the problem but he ordered a thyroid test and CBC. Why would he need to check this? Thanks just courious my health care is not the best right now and getting answers in a ten minute appoitment isn't easy.
ur thyroid can effect ur cycle if ur thyroid levels r not in normal limits they can cause u to bleed a lot or even miss ur cycle an can even cause hair loss weight gain etc. so thyroid levels r always a good place to start... good luck

For a thyroid test I am instructed not to eat iodized salt...I just got steak cut french fries without salt but I think they were cooked with some salt. Anyone know what happens to the iodine in this instance? I am guessing it transfers into the food?
Nothing happens to the iodine!
You must use salt without iodine, to prepare your food at home.. And no sea food before the test.
I have had my Thyroid tested 3 times now in the last year. They keep saying it is within normal limits. What can I do to get the correct test done. I know there are 2 types of test. Any advice?
Thyroid tests are very very routine for any doctor or medical laboratory. Most doctors will order lots of thyroid tests every week, and labs would analyse hundreds a week. I don't think you have to worry about getting the 'wrong' test. Just for the record, the two tests are FT4 (free thyroxine) and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). TSH is the most useful one.

It has always just been this annoying little white tablet I must take every day... MUST... learnt that the hard way when a locum doctor played with my dosage and sent me into a spiral of depression and anxiety attacks, which finally culminated in me freaking out and trying to run away from my life... in a 18 foot long Chev Belair with flames on it... in a small NZ town, where I was living with a cop... ok so it obviously affected my reasoning as well cause well obviously I didn't get far before the cops found me.. LOL Always check the label, mine must be kept in the fridge, after 24 years of not having to do that I didn't notice the label change.... I went through hell for 4 months where I gained...
