Positive Drug Test

I am dealing with an individual that denies illegal drug use. She continues to test positive for meth. She uses an inhaler. Her drug tests have been sent off for more through testing. What do I need to know and to look for to determain if she is testing falsely or if she is using meth?

An inhaler could possibly create a false positive, depending on the brand of inhaler. I've read that primatine mist can cause a false methamphetamine positive due to the way the chemical is metabolized. She could also be popping other types of amphetamines, such as Adderall, instead of using "meth". Does she have ADHD? There's pills sold in gas stations all over the place here that have psuedoephedrine in them, which causes a false meth positive. They're often marketed for asthma sufferers.

Taurine, from energy drinks, can cause a false positive for some narcotics. Use your judgement. If the levels are low, it could be a false positive, but if the levels are high, then I think it's safe to assume that it's a correct test. Some OTC painkillers can cause a false marijuana positive, but showing levels only slightly over the "Legal" limit of THC, for example.

I took a drug test and it showed up positive for cocaine and i have not been around it whatsoever. Iam currently taking wellbutrin 150mg, Straterra100mg, Trazadone300mg and am curious to know if that would be effecting the drug test. Iam very concerned what could be breaking down in my body.

It is also possible that they mixed your test up with another person's. The labs are not infallible. If you know you didn't use cocaine that seems like a real possibility. Sorry that happened to you.

Does a marijuana prescription for a non-life threatening illness protect you from a positive drug test by your employer in a medical marijuana state? Is it a state by state issue? I would love to get a California lawyer's view on this.

Yeah but you must disclose it to your employer who may have concerns about you being under the influence of marijuana at work for health and safety reasons.

Last Monday, I was out with a friend and I am afraid to say I got pressured into trying some marijuana. believe me, that was the first and last time. Ends up that I have job training for Starbucks coming up on Tuesday (the training is for 2 weeks). I was wondering is smoking marijuana once going to yield a positive drug test? And if I was already in training would I still be tested?

I agree with James Kees. Ive smoked 4 days before a few tests and passed without doing anything to get it out of my system. Theres been lots of times where Ive been on a job, smoking, but applying for better jobs, then the better job calls me out of the blue, interviews me and tells me to go in for the test the same day...so there's been lots of times where I had no time to do anything to try to cover it up or get it out of my system. Ive had 27 jobs (alot of them were jobs I just worked and quit after 2 weeks) and have been smoking the whole time, so believe me, I've been in all kinds of circumstances to take tests when I knew I had smoked. If you smoke once every 3 months like what James Kees said, it will not stay in your system longer than 3-7 days. If you are smoking everyday, it will stay in your system longer. Im skinny so that helps. It stays in your fat cells. If you are overweight it will probably stay longer in your system. What I would do is get one of those drug kits like at a local pharmacy and test yourself to see if it will show up. If the test shows up positive, then you can get synthetic urine to take the test, Ive passed tons of tests using this and it always works. Before I knew about it though, I had taken tons of tests and smoked the week before and still passed. I would guess that starbucks would give you a test, but its odd that they havent already given you one and you are training already. I dont think they would spend money to train you and then test you afterwards, but you never know. I worked for Microsoft for a whole month before they performed a background check and I was fired for a misdemeanor on my record that I didnt tell them about (probably wouldnt have even got that months pay if I was honest). Anyways, I seriously doubt it would still be in your system unless you are really overweight.
