I had a blood test for herpes, 2 week ago. 1 week ago my DR called and said I do not have herpes... is this accurate? could I possibly have herpes and just not have had an outbreak? how accurate are these blood tests? and can they even actually predict u have herpes at any time? or only on an outbreak. if so why did not my DR tell me this and just said no you do not have HSV?
it can take up to 3 months from the time of exposure to show up on a blood test.

I got tested (blood tests) for all the major STD's just for health verification. The herpes test came back positive, but I've never had an outbreak or any symptoms. So I am being re-tested and I'm very nervous. Is it possible for those test results to be wrong?
Almost all tests have a chance of false positive results... You're getting tested again, so if this test is positive then unfortunatly you have herpes. If it's negative you're probably safe. But... just because you've never had an outbreak, it doesn't mean you don't have the virus. Best wishes.

What if companies like Valtrex pay doctors to lie about your genital herpes test results just so they will recommend you medication?
I mean, think about it. They say most people don't even know that they have genital herpes because they show no symptoms. So if a person is in fear and doubt that they have the disease, who's to say that a doctor won't tell you false-positive results and prescribe you suppressant medication?
This is not something that doctors would need to lie about. All they would need to do is order non-type-specific herpes test.
Almost everyone (50% to 80% of adults) has oral herpes. If a doctor ordered a blood test for herpes, it would come back positive most of the time. They could then tell you that you needed Valtrex to protect your partner from catching your herpes. The word "herpes" scares people so much that many of them would actually do this.
Now, I have never heard of a doctor ordering a blood test for herpes without prompting. Even when you ask for a "complete STD screening" they often exclude herpes.
Has there ever been a doctor in the history of the world who has lied about test results? Probably. What is the likelihood, if you were just diagnosed with genital herpes, that your doctor is lying? Effectively zero.
I have genital herpes and have never gotten tested for hiv/aids. I'm going to get tested soon but I was just wondering if my herpes virus would affect the hiv test. I heard that hiv tests check for antibodies and I know herpes tests do as well. If someone could just explain to me how this goes, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
No, herpes and HIV/AIDS or two different viruses. HIV/AIDS tests look for the Virus disabling immune system: either of two strains of a retrovirus, HIV-1 or HIV-2, that destroys the immune system’s helper T cells, the loss of which causes AIDS. Full form human immunodeficiency virus.

My doctor did all sorts of herpes tests, and says that all the cultures and whatnot came up negative but the blood test came up positive. Does this mean that I have herpes but I don't have herpes? I don't have any sores or anything down there, but I have gotten the flu recently, and developed what I think might be a fever blister on my lip. What do you think?
There is no such thing as "having it but not having it." If your blood test was positive, then you have it. If the cultures were negative, it's most likely that you aren't having an outbreak right now, so there was nothing TO culture that COULD come up positive.
Having the flu wouldn't make any difference. I believe a fever blister is actually a cold sore (which is also a result of having herpes). You might not have any sores down there, but that just means that you're not having an outbreak right now, people can go for a long time in between outbreaks. You didn't specify what type of herpes you have, either, I assume it's type 1 since you got the cold sore. If you have type 1 and it's not in your genital area, you won't ever get a rash down there. However, you can still spread genital herpes to a partner if you give them oral sex while you have a cold sore. If you have a cold sore and you kiss someone, and then they go down on YOU, they could spread the virus to your genital area as well.
The safest thing to do is avoid any type of sexual activity (including kissing) while you have a cold sore.

A vaccine has been discovered for the incurable virus ...
A scientist has been awarded a grant to develop a vaccine for the currently incurable virus that causes genital herpes.
The research scientist, at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, has been given the two-year federal grant for $400,125 by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
William P. Halford is the associate professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology and the university and has previously been focusing on the Herpes Simplex 1 virus, responsible for causing recurrent cold sores and the rarer form of herpes, ocular herpes.
He previously received a federal grant for his research into Herpes Simplex 1.
Genital Herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide and causes misery for millions of people. Though it is not life-threatening, the stigma of the infection makes many feel extremely uncomfortable about developing relationships with new partners. Indeed, the stigma attached to the infection has seen dating websites spring up solely designed for use by those who are infected, allowing them to find partners without the fear that they could infect someone.
