I had a blood test for herpes, 2 week ago. 1 week ago my DR called and said I do not have herpes... is this accurate? could I possibly have herpes and just not have had an outbreak? how accurate are these blood tests? and can they even actually predict u have herpes at any time? or only on an outbreak. if so why did not my DR tell me this and just said no you do not have HSV?
it can take up to 3 months from the time of exposure to show up on a blood test.

Has anyone had a viral culture test for herpes, this is what I had this summer and am confused about it still. If they told me everything was fine should that be good enough?
Yes when I went I had kind of blister looking lesions and it was also done with a a close physical exam by a physician who upon examination told me it was odd yes but in his experience he didn't think it was anything, and the test was done within 24 hours of the appearance. Five days later is when I received the results.
So does that increase that accuracy?
i was tested (with a swab culture) about 3 months ago and turned up posative for herpes. maybe the doctor was telling u that so u wouldn't worry about it. but lesions anywhere are not usually normal for a person to have. some stds take time to develope symptoms if you have a culture test done its more accurate than a blood test. its better to have a blood test done when you have symptoms or an outbreak for better accuracy. if your still worried i would go for another test just to make sure.
I got tested (blood tests) for all the major STD's just for health verification. The herpes test came back positive, but I've never had an outbreak or any symptoms. So I am being re-tested and I'm very nervous. Is it possible for those test results to be wrong?
Almost all tests have a chance of false positive results... You're getting tested again, so if this test is positive then unfortunatly you have herpes. If it's negative you're probably safe. But... just because you've never had an outbreak, it doesn't mean you don't have the virus. Best wishes.

I have genital herpes and have never gotten tested for hiv/aids. I'm going to get tested soon but I was just wondering if my herpes virus would affect the hiv test. I heard that hiv tests check for antibodies and I know herpes tests do as well. If someone could just explain to me how this goes, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
No, herpes and HIV/AIDS or two different viruses. HIV/AIDS tests look for the Virus disabling immune system: either of two strains of a retrovirus, HIV-1 or HIV-2, that destroys the immune system’s helper T cells, the loss of which causes AIDS. Full form human immunodeficiency virus.

My test came up negative, but I heard of people still having it because the test wasnt accurate. What is the best way to know for sure.
Swabbing an out break would be the best way to go. Your doctor can take a sample of an out break and test it for herpes.
You have to wait at least 3 months (after exposure to the virus) for enough antibodies in a blood test to give you accurate results. Some times it takes time for antibodies to build up, so keep getting tested every 6 months for herpes just to be on the safe side.

It is a known fact that sexually transmitted diseases are now very common. However, the method of treating or knowing all about the infection is still unknown to many. A lot of people do not know who to go to in case they got infected with an STD. With this, several infected people are left undetected and untreated. These people still continue with their usual lives not knowing that they are aleady carriers of a life threatening disease. And also, these people continue to spread STDs to other people. This is one of the reasons why there is a continuous increase with STD cases yearly.
