if anybody can tell me how does drug testing using hair work?
Just a Prop

I want to know more about hair drug testing. The company I’m working with are conducting these tests. I wanna be sure that I do not get into the net due to false reasons. So if anybody can tell me how does drug testing using hair work?

I hope you don’t want to cheat the system. Anyways, hair testing is quite accurate and can go back normally 3 months (6 months or longer possible with specialty tests), showing any drugs of abuse used in the detection window. As hair grows out, any drugs used are encased in the hair shaft, so the longer the hair, the longer back in the individual's drug history the lab can detect. Accredited hair drug testing labs, however, only use hair within about 2.5–4 cm of the scalp, and discard the rest. With head hair each 0.5 inch (0.8 cm) corresponds to about 30 days. This limits the detection history to about 90 days, depending upon the rate of growth of the individual's hair. check out more on the links below

Hair drug testing - can a lab tell the different between ritalin and street drug with meth in it?

If you take methylphenidate for adhd and you also took street drug speed and you are drug tested by them taking your hair, can a lab tell the different if it was from the ritalin or street drugs with meth in it? Also can they tell the different if you took meth/speed and a vicks inhaler?

yes, a lab has the ability to take the drugs apart by chemical compound. they run a general test that will show you positive for the amphetamine, then they run further tests. Meth has different chemical compounds. They would not test for the Vick's inhaler.

How long will THC show up on hair drug testing?

This person quit in November and was tested this week. He is not really worried about the urine test, just the hair test.

This question is asked by many different people, and for good reason. Marijuana is the most commonly used and tested for drug in the United States and several other countries as well. Marijuana is also the drug that is more likely to stay in your system for days, weeks, or even an entire month after the last time that you smoke. Therefore, even though marijuana is one of the least harmful drugs out there, it is also the most likely drug to cause you to fail a drug test.

When you ask the question “How long does marijuana stay in your system?” you need to take into account the fact that there is no simple answer to this question. Quite simply, it’s argued both that THC never leaves your brain, as well as that there are several different factors which can affect whether or not you test positive for marijuana use.

The speed at which marijuana leaves your body depends both on the speed of your metabolism, as well as on the half life of THC. Unlike most other substances, the half-life of THC can vary quite a bit, depending on who is using it, when it’s used, and several other factors. For example, it’s estimated that THC can have a half life that ranges anywhere from 1-10 days. It’s almost impossible to find out what that half life is, which means that it is very difficult to use it to calculate how long it will take for all of the THC to leave your body.

Not only that, but your metabolism and how much marijuana you smoked will also have an effect on the length of time that it will take you before you can test without testing positive for marijuana use. After all, the half-life is only the length of time that it takes for you to lose half of the THC that is in your system. If you’ve smoked a lot of marijuana, then it will take you longer before the THC in your body drops back below the amount that is detectable by most drug tests.

For this reason, when you ask “How long does marijuana stay in your system?” you have to realize that it’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to get a usable answer. The most common period of time is anywhere from 3-30 days, depending on your metabolism and the amount of marijuana that you’ve smoked. This is unfortunate, since it means that while most drug tests can only turn up evidence of other drugs if you’ve been taking the drug within a few days of the drug test, marijuana could still be detected in a urine test up to a month after the last time it is used.

Hair tests are even worse, since your body stores THC in the hair follicles. For this reason, the previous answers to “How long does marijuana stay in your system?” are only useful if you’re going to be forced to take a urine test. For the hair test, depending on the amount of hair that the company takes, it’s possible that marijuana could be detected up to three years after the last time that you smoke.

If you’re worried about testing positive for marijuana, then you should definitely invest in some of the great products that will help you to test negative for marijuana use. This is due to the fact that it takes so long for the THC to leave your system that you’ll probably test positive if you do not. If you don’t have an entire month to wait before you need to take the test, then you should definitely think about some other options to keep from testing positive. is it possible to detect alcohol when using hair drug testing?

i basically want to know that if someone drank alcohol like a week ago, and they go in for a hair drug test today, does it come up and if it comes up how far back can you tell?

It is very possible. In the last decade the human hair has been found to be a very useful tool to analyze someone for not only drug abuse but alcohol as well. The fatty acid esters that form in hair have been known to store evidence of abuse for some time. These are not as common in someone who is just a light social drinker perhaps, but the possibility of their presence is still there, even in smaller amounts. One or two drinks may not be a serious threat, however to someone who is a habitual drinker, this likely show up in the hair. Hope this helps.

  • The Basics Of Hair Drug Testing

Drug testing is a procedure that everyone has to go through occasionally, whether it's for personal purposes or as part of the requirements for employment, eligibility for a sporting event or team, or insurance purposes, among many other reasons. The type of drug test that is most commonly known is the urine test, but this is just one example among many others. One particular type that is being used more frequently nowadays and developing further as technology advances is the hair strand test. Drugs, once taken in by the system, are easily absorbed by the body and travel through the bloodstream, eventually being absorbed by the hair follicles as well, making the hair strand test an effective way of detecting any drugs present in the body. The hair strand test is an examination that requires the use of a sample of hair which will identify the drugs that have been consumed by the person being tested. Around forty to fifty strands make up the hair sample, which is cut from the root and then processed to measure the amount of drug molecules and metabolites produced by the body. The hair strand test is able to detect traces of drugs that have been used by the individual over approximately 90 days. It is also effective enough to detect drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine (which includes Ecstasy), Pencyclidine, and opiates such as codeine and morphine. The hair strand test doesn't just make use of one's hair on the head; even body hair can be used, and it can even detect the type and presence of drugs you have used even one year prior to the test. This is because body hair tends to grow at a slower rate than that of hair from the head. Therefore, even people who are completely bald can still undergo a hair strand test, with hair being collected from other parts of the body and compiled until the necessary amount of hair is obtained. One of the concerns about the hair strand test is that the hair strands may contain traces of drugs if the person being tested was exposed to smoke from marijuana or other drugs, making it appear as though the person has used drugs. Contrary to this belief, the occurrence of metabolites in the hair strands takes place solely because they were produced by the body, and not because of exposure. The hair strand test is definitely a simple and interesting way to examine a person for drugs, and is welcomed by those who find blood or urine tests quite intrusive. It works just as well as any other types of drug tests available and has even been show to detect more drugs than urinalysis.
