Drug Testing Results

How long does it typically take for drug testing results to come in from a local hospital?

It depends on how they took them, but definately no longer than a month, usually within a week or two. It depend son what it was for, if it was for legal reasons, then almost immediately, if it was for a job then they take their good old time and it can take up to a month. I am a drug counselor, and when my clients get tested I do the urine and the mouth swa tests myself because they are immediate, but when they go get the blood test it takes me about a week to get it back.

My friend has a hair drug test and she says that when he will take the test, he will have been clean for aprox. 2 1/2 months. He smoked marijuana for 2 weeks a month ago and has a hair drug test in a month and a half. He says when he goes in to take the drug test, he is going to shave every part of his body and leave about a half an inch to and inch of hair on his head for them to sample. Do you think he is in the clear or should he have reason to worry? Personally I think he will be clean because before then he said he hadn't smoked until Feb. 2007. However, I'm not an expert. He is very athletic and workouts daily. He has very low body fat. Any information will help. Thank you.

first off, kevin57 is absolutely wrong!! The length of your hair DOES matter when getting a hair test. Most facilities only test back 3 months and since the average person's hair grows about 1/2 inch a month that correlates to them testing only the first 1 & 1/2 inches of hair from the scalp. When drugs enter your system they go into your bloodstream which then goes into the hair follicle. Any drug use shows up in the hair shaft only at the particular point when drugs were used. i.e., if you used 2 months ago the drug metabolites would show up in your hair shaft about 1 inch from your scalp (it's kind of like the rings of a tree trunk.)Therefore they can only test as far back as his hair is long. If he only has about 1 inch of hair at the time of testing then the test will only go back 2 months. Also, these are approximations; some people's hair grows faster or slower than that.My suggestion is to cut his hair very short right before testing and also shave any other viable testing hair on the body.(facial, leg, underarms, pubic, etc.) It is unlikely that if he has about an inch of hair on his head they will ask for hair elsewhere but shave anyway just to be safe.I think he should test clean if he really hasn't used for 2 1/2 months at time of test. and he cuts hair, it should be fine.

P.S. fitness has nothing to do with hair test results. If the drugs were in his system they will show in hair regardless of how fit you are.

I just had a drug test on monday, and they sent it off that night.. i think.

And, if it DOES happen to come out positive, will my work just fire me, or will i go to jail? I only smoked like 2 bowls one on one day, and then one 2 days later.. i heard it only takes 3 days for it to get out of your system if you only smoke it causually. is this true?

it can stay in your system up to 30 days ,and yes most jobs just fire you , never heard of anyone going to jail., some jobs make you go through a detox progarm and then test every 30 days.

I went to take a drug test yesterday (Wednesday) and want to know how long it will take to get the results back? Its been over 24 hours and I am getting nervous! My new employer (Best Buy) said that they will call me when the results get in. Has anyone worked for Best Buy? Is so how long does it take??

I have not worked for Best Buy, however, I have had to take quite a few UA's (Urine Analysis).

I was on active probation for a while, so I had to take a few for that.

It usually took anywhere between, 3 days to a week.

Have no fear, it all depends on where the lab they send the tests to, how specific each test actually is, and what type of test it is.

When someone takes a drug test, and let's say they fail, does that become part of public record (meaning that anyone could have access to it)?

The reason I'm wondering is because I'm writing a paper on publication of private matters for my Law class...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not if it is done by a private group. If the police arrest you and then take a sample and you fail, then it can be part of your arrest record.

You can always ask the drug testing place if they keep results private.
