I went to take a drug test yesterday (Wednesday) and want to know how long it will take to get the results back? Its been over 24 hours and I am getting nervous! My new employer (Best Buy) said that they will call me when the results get in. Has anyone worked for Best Buy? Is so how long does it take??


I have not worked for Best Buy, however, I have had to take quite a few UA's (Urine Analysis).

I was on active probation for a while, so I had to take a few for that.

It usually took anywhere between, 3 days to a week.

Have no fear, it all depends on where the lab they send the tests to, how specific each test actually is, and what type of test it is.

I had to take a pre-employment drug test today. I am supposed to start work on thursday morning. How long until I know the results? Will anyone contact me?


It depends on the type of test administered, the chain of custody procedures and the workload of the lab. If the employer calls you for an interview several days after the test, you can assume that the test was negative. I don't think the lab notifies you. They notify the agency requesting the test.

How long does it take for a background check and drug test results to come back?

My husband went to Norfolk Southern about two weeks ago and did the background check and drug test. We are getting really anxious and nervous! Does anyone know when we could expect a call or something? How long does it take to get these results back?


This usually takes about a week. It takes longer if they actually find something, because then they need to verify it.
