I took a cholesterol test, forgot about it, and ate a piece of toast with coconut oil on it about 2 hours before. How will all that fat and bread affect the results of my test. I'm sure that it will push up my tryglicerydes. But will it affect my total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, or blood glucose? Thanks in advance.
You shouldn't have eaten, goober. That said, what you ate will have an effect on the results. The levels that the doctors are looking for are based on a fasting test. Since you ate beforehand, your levels will be higher than on a fasting test, and may be higher than desirable. If any of the levels were worrisome, you may want to inform your doctor of the problem so he/she can let you know if the test needs to be done again.
This video explains step by step how to test your blood at home for cholesterol. You can test your total cholesterol, HDL and triglycerides.
I have decided to make cholesterol test to check it and calm down myself of any worries. Please share your experience with cholesterol test; it will be of much help to me.
Nothing to worry about. Have one every year. You fast for 12 hours then first thing in the morning you get some blood taken .That's all there is to it really. Only ever had one that was high and all I did was switch from full cream milk to skim milk as the doctor suggested and ever since it has been regarded as excellent.
My doctor says my cholesterol is high, woulld eating a doughnut before the test have a significant effect?
I know, but I forgot about the test when I was getting up for work, and accidently ate a chocolate doughnut. Now my cholesterol level is throughh the roof. It's my first test ever, so I don't have any reference. I do eat like crap.
As you already knew you weren't supposed to eat before the test so it could have falsely given results. Myself, I wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference. Week to week your cholesterol can change. Mine used to be 272 then I went on a low carb diet but ate plenty of fat. It totally went down to 171 in less than a year. It's the combo of carbs and fats that make the bad fat stick to you. I did hear on an XM station for doctors that the good cholesterol, HDL, may not be as good as thought and same possibly with the LDL. I remember back when, my grandparents never even were checked for this. The info will change a lot until pinpointed. In the meantime, get the test again 1st thing one of these mornings coming up.
one pack of cholesterol (red)
one pack of trigliceride (purple)
one pack of lipids (green)
I am getting a cholesterol test and I also asked to check for diabetes. The receptionist said they can find this out with the cholesterol test. Is this true? (I am only asking because the receptionist did not convince me and didn't even know if I had to fast - which I know I do)
Thanks for the help!
No, a cholesterol test will not indicate anything about diabetes. I have no idea why the receptionist would say that.
You probably want a hemoglobin A1c test, which will tell the doctor about the average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months (non-diabetics have a result typically less than 6).
It is true that people with diabetes often have messed up cholesterol and triglyceride measurements, but there are lots of reasons for abnormal results, and diabetes is only one of them.
Good luck - with getting them to provide the test, and with all of the results.
Got a cholesterol test @ 8am. So, was wondering if I eat chicken in the next hour will it affect my fast to get ready for the test?
I recommend eating what you normally eat up till midnight so as not to skew the results. If you have high LDL then you want to know about it so it can be addressed by your doctor.
Bottom line is your cholesterol levels are accumulative over weeks and months unlike your glucose levels that are affected immediately.
If you have high cholesterol and do not want to take meds with side effects try Cholestsure. I have been taking it for 10 months and my total cholesterol is 199, used to be over 250.

I carefully followed the directions for the Total Cholesterol test and everything happened as described in the directions. I do not know if the result was accurate; however, it worked as expected. I then did the same for the HDL test; however, this test must have been defective as neither of the two indicator circles or the measured strip ever showed any color. Yes, I pulled the tab all the way out and could see the full arrow exactly as on the total cholesterol test. I then called the support number listed for any problems. I was directed to voicemail during their stated business hours and left a message. I have yet to receive a call back, and do not expect one. I gave it two stars because the one test did work as expected.
