Yes. Your blood should be clean for trigs but not for cholesterol.

I am only 27 what can I do to lower them. Also would it matter that I ate 2 hours before blood test.
you need to be retested as your meal skewed the results. talk with your doctor. in the future, stop eating 12 hours before the test and drink only water -lots of it.
I am a diabetic, had a stroke in 03 that left paralise, coroniary artery disease since 91. I have changed my diet, very little bread, no soda (water & unsweet tea only), no fried foods, fruit & vegetables. I have also lost weight.
Triglycerides come from Carbohydrates, not fat. Cut out all carbohydrates except those from non starchy vegetables. Your Triglycerides will fall, your CHD will improve, and you will not need any drugs for Type II diabetes. Watch the fruit and eliminate the grains.

Need some medical advice here... I had some blood-work done and my bilirubin is 2.2 (normal 0.2-1.2 range) and triglycerides are 181 (normal <150). All the other numbers are in the normal range (total cholesterol 171, HDL 44, LDL 91). So what does it mean when bilirubin and triglycerides are high?
Thanks!
I am not a doctor, but was a care giver of 20 yrs. I do want to say that the fact that you have kept record of your triglycerides and bilirubin is admirable! It shows that you are intelligent and not panicy, stoic or apathetic to your situation.
In answer to your question ... very simple actually. Call your doctor's office and ask the head nurse that question. You will get a quick and factual answer that will only take a second or two.
Keep up the good work!
They more than doubled since my last test six months ago.
That is very odd. Triglycerides come from eating high calorie meals, and then your body stores away some of it for energy later. Have you been working out? Exercise is one of the best combatants against high triglycerides. Also try adding fish oil to your diet. If you've been drinking alcohol, cut it out completely...it can raise your triglycerides significantly.
Most importantly, ask your doctor what the cause can be. I'm where you are. I lost weight, and yet my triglycerides are still twice as high as they should be. Maybe your doc can offer some better suggestions on how to lower your numbers.

Qamp;A: Cholesterol Concerns for Women : Blisstree - Family, Health ...
Women should have their cholesterol checked at least by the time of puberty. If it is fine, it should be rechecked at least every five years until age 25. After age 25, annual lipid testing should be standard. Women should have cholesterol evaluated pre and post each pregnancy, as hormone levels can cause significant variations in lipid profiles. Women go through significant hormone variations with puberty, pregnancy, peri-menopause and menopause so it is essential that normal levels be established before these significant events.

If you feel fine is it important to know your cholesterol numbers?
