The directions say to avoid fatty, creamy, oily, fried, gravy, or whole milk & that kind of food during the final meal, 12 hours before the blood test. I understand why you need to fast after that, but what's the reason for not eating fatty foods pre-fast?
They are testing you for cholesterol, and fatty foods could temporarily increase your cholesterol, giving an invalid reading. It's not sure that they would be completely out of your blood in 12 hrs.
This may be better than the other video of the blood test I have. I go to same clinic and same lab for my blood test. It don#39;t hurt or bruise ...
I had a blood test done and my Dr only told me they were going to do it again. I'll have to wait until next Monday or Tuesday and I just can't do that. I had low red blood cell count, high platelets and high MCH (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin) on lab test.
Only serious responses please.
It sounds to me like your doctor wants to retest to see if you are anemic. This means that for some reason (usually an iron deficiency) your blood may not be carrying around enough oxygen to meet the body's demands. MCH is part of "red blood cell indicies" which help a physician diagnose anemia and what kind it is. MCH is elevated in certain anemias. Only your doctor can tell you what kind you have and even if you have it. That is why he or she is probably wanting that second workup. Anemia is very common and most people just need to make sure that they are getting more iron in their diets or in some cases take an iron supplement. DO NOT start self treating until you hear more information from your doctor because those lab values are known to fluctuate... hence the second test ; ) Hope this helped!

What do the test names mean?
RBC - Red Blood Cells - Cells that deliver oxygen throughout the body and make blood look red
HCT - Hematocrit - Percent of your blood that is occupied by red blood cells
HGB - Hemoglobin - Hemoglobin is a protein used by red blood cells to distribute oxygen to other tissues and cells in the body
My guess is that they are looking to see if your anemic? Low counts of each determine anemia.
Good Luck
i just got my first blood test done.. my doctor basically ticked all the boxes on the blood test form.. i had blood glucose, insulin, tryglycerides, cholesterol, liver enzymes, thryoid hormones, esterogen, testosterone, etc done.. everything was normal except for my SHBG.. the normal range for a female is 35 - 110.. mine was 168.. is that normal? i'm 18 yrs old.. im not on any medication
Sex hormone binding globulin. That is the carrier protein for the sex hormones as most are lipids (cholesterol) and not water soluble and so carrier proteins are needed for them to circulate in blood.
It is needed in order to interpret hormone levels. Synthesis and secretion of SHBG is promoted by growth hormone, estrogen's and thyroid hormones. One usually sees higher levels in pregnancy or estrogen treatment and in hyperthyroidism or in liver cirrhosis.
Lower levels are seen in PCOS, obesity, hypothyroidism and hirsutism.
You don't mention your symptoms but probably trying to rule out PCOS?
please explain in details to help me understand better, i will appreciate your answer and support.
Well, I would assume wherever you got the test done at they should explain to you what it means exactly. Or you should be able to call up your doctor's office & ask a nurse or ask your doctor.
