HIV through first aid procedures?

I have a question. I'm 15 and several months ago I was at a summer education camp and we took a trip to a park. While there, another student cut/scraped his arm and there was visible blood but it wasn't serious. Being me, a certified EMS First Responder offered to clean the scrape/cut and there weren't any latex gloves in the first aid kit. So I went ahead and tore open an alcohol pad and cleansed the area. I'm not sure if any blood got on my finger tips and if it did, it was very little. I assume the alcohol from the pad would have killed the HIV virus if that student did have HIV. Anyway, afterwards I realized that there was the risk of HIV and washed my hands with a moist towelette. Now I'm paranoid as hell. I don't really want a test because I don't want my parents to suspect I'm having sex (I'm a virgin). But my main question is, is it possible to contract HIV in this situation?
Just to let you know, I'm also scared to death.

RELAX! There was no risk based on the scenario that you described. There has been no reported cases of HIV transmitted that way and you are not going to be the first one either. You were not at risk period. Instead of killing yourself thinking about this incident day and night, move on with your life and enjoy. HIV is hard to catch and is only transmitted by unprotected vaginal/anal sex, from mother to child and from sharing IV for drugs.

You can go and get tested but your result will be negative.

For about 6 weeks my left leg has become supersized.?

One day I looked down and thought I had elephantitis in one leg (left). Of course, I put it up, etcetera, but the water retention that usually balloons both my legs every time the weather gets hot all seems to have gone to one leg this year. I went to the dr. No heart nor lung pain that I can feel. I have to make an appt. for a lower ab scan and blood test. Meanwhile I'm out of state on business but the size of my leg is starting to scare me. If I keep it up, it helps a little, otherwise...? I've begun a colon cleanse in case there was pressure on the kidney from colon. The past few days I am experiencing pain inside my back, left, about my hand legnth from my waist upward.
Is it my imagination, or does anyone else out there with a little medical background think this sounds like a kidney problem? Can anyone give me any further advice? Diuretics help, a little, but my feet have not been the same size since I first noticed the left one having become almost round?
The leg doesn't really hurt. Just pressure sometimes, at the end of the day and yes I had been drinking plenty of liquids, at least since I saw this symptom in the leg.
I appreciate any help anyone can give!
By the way, I have fibromyalgia and plenty of back problems but this seems to go from front to back, not a normal back pain for me.
I had no remote memory of the name but have feared the DVT. Thank you.

I have FM too so I understand the leg pain you are talking about. My legs normally feel like what they 2 liter bottle overfilled with air in a science project must feel like. The first thing I though of when I read your headline was DVT. That is a pretty severe condition though, so hopefully you don't have it. Here are reliable links:

If this isn't it, try using these sites to find more information on your symptoms. They are very good websites.

Good luck.

Child with ADHD, has anyone used natural remedies for their children? and have they worked??

My daughter is 6 years old now but since she started school the teachers have been telling me she has adhd. The first year I didn't do anythign about it. The second year The teacher still pushed it so I brought her to a pediatrician who sjust basically medicated her right away without any testing. I took her off the drug because things were not improving after a few months. I recently went to see a different pediatrician and received the same diagnosis that she has adhd. I have been researching it as much as I can but I still have mixed feelings. I went today to see a naturopath to get her blood analyzed. I was amazed at what she told me, without me even telling her why I brought her there in the first place. She was able to tell me what was going on in her body and what would be affected by it. she recomended some supplements and a body cleanse. has anyone else tried this for their child and has it helped???

This will be a bit long, but I'll try to give you my best understanding on the problem since it seems like information would be appreciated :P
Hope you find this helpful!

ADD is a relatively recent phenomena that has been getting progressively worse. Those critical of the conventional approach towards the condition believe the following may be true;
The condition is overdiagnosed by zealous psycologist (the reasons for this are debated, they include payments from drug companies)
A lot of previously normal behavior (ie. boys naturally don't like to sit down at a desk all day long), is now considered a mental problem. Some people claim this is linked to the fact the new model of schooling wants to process students into mindless workers for an industrial system, hence previous indepenedent habits that prevent toiling in a factory all day long are not acceptable.
Environmental pollution causes it (ie. food additives were shown irrefutably by a UK government study to cause learning problems including ADD).
The nature of our current society creates it. For instance the rapidly changing stimuli on TV (one thing is only focused on for a few seconds before the next one is jumped to) causes a child's attention span to be conditioned to be very short.

Regardless of the cause though, the biggest opposition towards the ritalin treatment is the fact that the stuff is an amphetamine (ie. think of methamphetamine aka crystal meth). A lot of the effects of ritalin mirror those of fairly bad drugs, and I know quite a few people raised on ritalin, who are for lack of a better term fucked up and disfunctional.
An old tactic (I never did it but I had friends that did) for doing well on important exams which were not primarily memory based and timed was to take cocaine or speed before the test. Ritalin has now become a much popular drug for this approach. The state of mind you go into can be useful occasionaly for situations like that, but forcing continually on the nervous system just messes it up, strains it, makes you completely dependent on the drugs, and puts you into a completely unnatural/abnormal state of mind.

I have heard of a few people who have seen naturopaths successfully (as another poster mentioned, naturopaths only count in states that accredit them, in other places the title is almost worthless) to treat it. I would advise looking into that before you tried anything else.

Quick aside on Kalos.
He goes on here, and gives a brief flame (slander) to anything to do with an alternative medicine practice. Once that flame has been made, some responds and points out why it's false, and then Kalos edits his post to write a long tirade and flaming whoever claimed that.
I would estimate this has happened over 100 times, just ignore him.

How to Prevent Colon Cancer- Basics of Colon Cancer | Alternative ...

More than 95% of colorectal cancers come from adenocarcinoma polyps. These cancers start in cells that form mucus glands, which lubricate the colon and rectum. A polyp is a group of cells that form on top of each other and may eventually turn cancerous. Carcinoid tumors, gastrointestinal stromal tumors and lymphomas also cause 5% of colon cancers. Doctors say the best way to prevent colon cancer is to undergo regular screening tests after the age of 50 and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Before talking about colon cancer prevention, let’s talk a little about what colon cancer is, exactly. Both the colon and rectum are part of the digestive system. The first part of the digestive system, which is the esophagus and stomach, breaks down food to be processed into energy. Next, the broken down food travels to the small intestine/bowel, which is a narrow, 20-foot section that continues breaking down food and absorbing most of the nutrients. The small intestine then sends the remaining material to the five-foot-long colon (which is also referred to as ”the large intestine”), where it absorbs salt and water and stores waste. The first part of the colon is the ascending colon, which is attached to the small intestine and the appendix on the right side of the abdomen. The transverse colon runs from the right to the left side of the upper abdomen. The descending colon travels downward on the left side and the sigmoid colon is an S-shaped portion that passes food matter down to the rectum, the final six inches of the digestive system, which will pass food out of the body through the anus. No one is really sure what exactly causes a colon cancer cell to develop in the first place, or why some experience a colon cancer recurrence, but research suggests a variety of lifestyle, hereditary and environmental factors are at play.
