I have a friend who chews tobacco because hes trying to stop smoking and i tell him to stop because it rots your teeth and gums really fast. Hes been doing it for about a month packing like 3 times a day. His teeth dont look bad but his inner lip his like all red and there is skin missing. I guess it heals but how long does it take for a longing effect?

hello. i have been chewing tobacco for about a year and my gums are starting to receed. can this be reversed at all? i know i have to quit for starters. well? i wanna hear what you people have to say.
Most likely...NO!
Smokeless tobacco contains thousands of chemicals. Most are toxic or carcinogenic. These have been sitting next to your gum tissue for a year. This effect may or may not come to haunt you down the road. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. That means it causes blood vessels to tighten up, thereby restricting the blood flow through them. This reduced blood flow, in addition to probably less than ideal oral hygiene has resulted in some gum recession. Once gone...it usually only goes one way-------->>>down further.
Update: what kind of fuc-ing idiot would give me a thumbs down. What did I say that was wrong you clueless bas-ard.
Oh..and by the way...you could always get some gum grafting surgery to repair the damage to your gumline.
My doctor said he couldn't imagine it would be any better than smoking except that it doesn't breath into the lungs but there is no conclusive documentation on the effects.
Technically the baby doesnt breath air like you do it breaths what is in your blood. The smoke effects the baby because it goes into your blood stream and chewing tobacco is in fact worse because it put larger amounts of nicotine into the baby's system cause the child to be born like addict. Colic is a major factor in nicotine use because the baby's system didnt develope well enough because it was too busy fighting off the nicotine.

Chewing tobacco harmful to heart | Pakistan Daily
Researchers from Minnesota did a study and looked at various measures of cardiovascular and nervous system activity among 16 young men before and after the volunteers used chewing tobacco.
It was found that tobacco consumption not only increased blood pressure, but also dampened the body’s normal stabilizing response to blood pressure spikes. Over the time, chewing tobacco could lead to chronic high blood pressure or other ill effects on the heart and blood vessels.
Normally, when a healthy person’s blood pressure shoots up, nervous system activity shifts in order to bring the pressure back down slowing the heart rate and decreasing resistance in blood vessels throughout the body.
